Max Harrell Muse

Born October 22, 1957, Max H. Muse, was a native of Moore County, and a lifelong resident of Carthage, NC.  He was the son of the late James Braswell and Ruth Harrell Muse. A graduate of Union Pines High School and Sandhills Community College, he served his community through a lifetime of participation in the field of emergency first reponse and as a nurse in the medical field.  

 

As a registered nurse he worked at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital for 35 years in multiple roles. Outside of that, his passion was the 48 years he spent with the Carthage Rescue Squad where He served as Captain and helped countless people in need over those years. Whenever there was a call and lives were threatened, Max was there. He became North Carolina’s first RN Medical Examiner and served Moore County for 15 years. Max earned many certifications including BLS, EMT, ACLS, PALS, BTLS, TNCC, RN, MICN, and SAR.

Max served on the Carthage Planning Board for over 20 years as a volunteer and a was the sole representative of the Carthage Extra Territorial Jurisdiction.  

He was awarded  the Rotary Club of Carthage Citizen of the Year Award and the Moore County Board of Commissioners Appreciation Award. 

At the end of his life, Max was serving as President for the Moore County Amateur Radio Society where he also served his community via the Amateur Radio Service. 

He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church Carthage where he served as an Elder. 

Max died unexpectedly from medical complications on September 30, 2021.  He left behind his wife of 29 years Jeannie Stocks Muse and their daughter Emily Muse.  

 

Max was always friendly to all he met and lived a life of service before self.
